Slow Cooker Cube Steak and Onion Gravy

My mom learned this from her mother who survived on almost nothing. The cheapest cut turns into the most tender meal with the richest gravy. This slow cooker comfort food is hearty, affordable, and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Season cube steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Lay cube steaks over the onions.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, gravy mix, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour mixture evenly over the steaks.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until tender.
  7. Spoon extra gravy over the steaks before serving.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve over mashed potatoes
  • Pair with rice or buttered noodles
  • Add green beans or corn on the side

Tip: For thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir into the slow cooker during the last 20 minutes of cooking.
