Grandma’s Cabbage and Noodles
My grandma made this every week during hard times and we still request it at every family dinner. This comforting budget-friendly meal is simple, hearty, and packed with old-fashioned flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1 small head cabbage, chopped
- 1 large onion, diced
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook macaroni according to package directions and drain.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add chopped cabbage and onion.
- Cook slowly for 15-20 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Add cooked macaroni and stir well to combine.
- Transfer to a casserole dish if desired and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes for crispy edges.
- Serve warm.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve alongside smoked sausage
- Add crispy bacon for extra flavor
- Top with grated parmesan cheese
Tip: Let the cabbage brown slightly while cooking for the richest flavor.
