Slow Cooker Swiss Steak Meat Patties
This old-fashioned comfort food features juicy beef patties slowly simmered in a rich tomato gravy with onions and green peppers. The slow cooking makes the meat incredibly tender while the savory sauce is perfect for spooning over mashed potatoes or rice.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, and black pepper.
- Mix gently and shape into 4–6 large oval patties.
- Brown the patties in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side (optional but recommended).
- Layer the sliced onions and green peppers in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Place the beef patties on top of the vegetables.
- Mix together the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, and sugar if using. Pour over the patties.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the patties are tender and the sauce is rich.
- Spoon the tomato gravy over each patty before serving.
