Deep Dish Apple Crisp

Deep Dish Apple Crisp

This Deep Dish Apple Crisp recipe was born out of my love for apple pies and the need for a quicker alternative. While I adore traditional apple pies, the time it takes to prepare a crust often deters me. To overcome this, I experimented and developed this simpler, yet equally delightful version. The result is an easy-to-make dessert that pairs beautifully with ice cream, making it perfect for serving guests. My husband, a devoted fan of apple desserts, couldn’t resist diving in before I had the chance to capture a photo!

However, it’s important to note that this recipe has received mixed reviews. One reviewer mentioned that while the idea was appealing, the execution fell short. The topping mixture was described as too sticky and difficult to spread over the apples, resulting in a flavor that was somewhat lacking. Another user echoed this sentiment, noting that the topping was thick and not sweet enough, even with the use of extra-large Granny Smith apples. Despite the recipe’s positive reception overall, these critiques highlight that the topping may not suit everyone’s taste.

Ingredients:

  • Enough apples, peeled and sliced, to cover the bottom of an 8-inch pie plate

For the Topping:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar (reserve 1/4 cup and mix with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all topping ingredients except for the reserved cinnamon sugar.
  2. Arrange the apple slices in the pie plate, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the apples.
  3. Carefully spread the topping mixture over the apples.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is firm and golden brown.

Final Step:

Remember to share this delightful dessert with loved ones. Enjoy!
