A classic Southern favorite — creamy, sweet, and layered with love 💛

Old-Fashioned Banana Pudding

🍌 Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4–5 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers (about 11 oz)
  • Whipped cream or meringue topping (optional)

👩‍🍳 Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (about 8–10 minutes).
  3. Temper the beaten egg yolks by stirring in a few tablespoons of the hot mixture, then pour them back into the pan.
  4. Continue cooking for 2–3 more minutes until thick and creamy. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  5. In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding. Repeat until all ingredients are used, ending with pudding on top.
  6. Top with whipped cream or meringue if desired.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving. Enjoy cold and creamy!
🍮 Tip: For a nostalgic touch, lightly toast your vanilla wafers before layering — it adds the perfect crunch!
