Wonton Soup Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Wontons:

  • 8 ounces ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 24 square wonton wrappers (3½ inches each)

For the Soup:

  • 6 cups (1,440g) chicken broth
  • 1½ teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2-3 green onions, chopped

Preparation:

Wontons:

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly combine the ground pork, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, brown sugar, and chopped green onions.
  2. Take a wonton wrapper and place a heaping teaspoon of the pork mixture in the center.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold into a triangle, and press to remove any excess air. Ensure the edges are sealed tightly.
  4. Gently lift the long edge of the wonton and fold the corners towards the center. Press firmly to seal, using water as needed.
  5. Repeat the process for the remaining wontons and set them aside while preparing the soup.

Soup:

  1. In a medium-sized pot, heat the chicken broth over medium heat. Add garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Let the soup simmer gently.
  2. In a separate large pot, bring about 4 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, carefully add the prepared wontons and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  3. Drain the wontons and transfer them to the warm broth.
  4. Serve the soup immediately while hot.

Enjoy your delicious wonton soup!
