Traditional Turkish Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, stirring until the mixture comes together to form a dough.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let It Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Shape the Bread: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a ball. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Using a sharp knife, make a few slits on the top of the dough. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
  7. Bake: Bake the bread for 20-25 minutes or until it turns a beautiful golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Tip:

If you don’t have active dry yeast, instant yeast works just as well. Simply add it directly to the flour mixture along with the sugar and salt.
