Thick Caramel Sauce Recipe

Thick Caramel Sauce 🍯✨

Rich, buttery, and perfectly smooth—this thick caramel sauce is pure decadence! Ideal for drizzling over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, or even dipping apples.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (do not substitute)
  • 2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or more to taste)

Directions

  1. Melt: In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Combine: Add brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  3. Add milk: Mix in the sweetened condensed milk and cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and thick.
  4. Simmer: Let it gently boil for 10–12 minutes until golden and glossy.
  5. Finish: Stir in whipping cream, vanilla, and salt. Adjust salt to taste.
  6. Serve: Pour warm caramel into jars. Use immediately or refrigerate.

Tips 💡

  • Use dark brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
  • Stir constantly to avoid burning—caramel thickens quickly.
  • For salted caramel, increase salt to 1½ teaspoons.
