Stuffed Whole Chicken Recipe

🌿 Stuffed Whole Chicken

A juicy, golden roasted chicken packed with a flavorful homemade stuffing. Perfect for family dinners or special occasions!

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 1 whole chicken (1–1.2 kg), cleaned
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil

For the Stuffing:

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3–4 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • ½ cup chopped spinach or coriander leaves
  • 1 boiled egg, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs (or oregano + thyme)
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste

For Basting:

  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

1. Prep the Chicken

  1. Wash and pat dry the chicken.
  2. Rub salt, pepper, and lemon juice all over and inside the cavity.
  3. Set aside to marinate.

2. Make the Stuffing

  1. Heat oil or butter in a pan.
  2. Sauté onions and garlic until soft.
  3. Add grated carrot and spinach; cook 1–2 minutes.
  4. Stir in breadcrumbs, cheese, herbs, pepper, and salt.
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  6. Add chopped boiled egg (optional).

3. Stuff the Chicken

  1. Fill the chicken cavity with the stuffing.
  2. Secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
  3. Tie the legs together if needed.

4. Roast the Chicken

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Brush the chicken with melted butter and lemon juice.
  3. Roast for about 1 hour, basting occasionally with the juices or butter.
  4. Chicken is done when juices run clear when pierced.

5. Rest & Serve

  1. Let the roasted chicken rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Carve and serve with roasted potatoes, sautéed veggies, or salad.
