Striped Candy Apples

🍏🍭 Striped Candy Apples
Ingredients:
- 6 small apples
- 6 wooden sticks (or sturdy lollipop sticks)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ½ cup water
- Food coloring (two contrasting colors, e.g., red & white or orange & black)
- Optional: edible glitter or sprinkles
Directions:
- Prepare the Apples:
Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple. - Make the Candy Coating:
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
Cook over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Allow the mixture to reach 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer (hard crack stage), without stirring. - Color the Candy:
Divide the mixture evenly into two bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl to create two distinct colors. - Dip & Stripe:
Carefully dip each apple in one color, let it set slightly, then drizzle or dip into the second color to create stripes.
Use a spoon to control the second layer for striped effects. - Add Decorations:
Optionally, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles while the candy coating is still tacky. - Cool & Serve:
Place apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and set completely.
Enjoy these festive treats! 🎉
