Striped Candy Apples

🍏🍭 Striped Candy Apples

Ingredients:

  • 6 small apples
  • 6 wooden sticks (or sturdy lollipop sticks)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • Food coloring (two contrasting colors, e.g., red & white or orange & black)
  • Optional: edible glitter or sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
  2. Make the Candy Coating:
    In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    Cook over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
    Allow the mixture to reach 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer (hard crack stage), without stirring.
  3. Color the Candy:
    Divide the mixture evenly into two bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl to create two distinct colors.
  4. Dip & Stripe:
    Carefully dip each apple in one color, let it set slightly, then drizzle or dip into the second color to create stripes.
    Use a spoon to control the second layer for striped effects.
  5. Add Decorations:
    Optionally, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles while the candy coating is still tacky.
  6. Cool & Serve:
    Place apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and set completely.
