Soft Christmas Peppermints

Soft Christmas Peppermints
A festive, soft peppermint candy — red & green swirls dusted with powdered sugar. Easy to make and perfect for gift jars or holiday plates.
Ingredients
- 3 3/4 cups (approx. 450 g) powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting
- 1/3 cup (80 g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (adjust to taste)
- Red gel food coloring
- Green gel food coloring
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
- Place 3 cups of the powdered sugar in a large bowl. Make a well and add the condensed milk and peppermint extract.
- Stir until a soft dough forms. If it’s too sticky add powdered sugar a tablespoon at a time until workable but still soft.
- Divide dough into three portions. Leave one white, color one red and one green using gel coloring. Knead each until evenly colored.
- Roll each portion into ropes ~1/2″ (1–1.5 cm) thick. Place ropes side-by-side (white/red/green), press to join, then roll into a larger rope and slice into bite-size pieces. Alternatively twist or shape as desired.
- Dust pieces lightly with powdered sugar and place on the sheet. Let air-dry 1–2 hours until slightly firm to the touch.
- Store in an airtight container layered with parchment at room temperature up to 2 weeks.
Tip: use gel food coloring for bright, non-runny stripes. If you prefer a firmer candy, add 2–4 tablespoons more powdered sugar during mixing and increase drying time.
⚠️ Note: These are soft candies (not hard boiled). Keep away from small children who might choke on small candies; supervise serving.
