Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs

🥨🧀 Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs
“Warning: These little pretzel dogs caused a full-blown snack war in my house.
The second they came out of the oven, they were gone. 10/10 would make again!”
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F / 43°C)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 cheese sticks (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 10 cups water (for boiling)
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice each hot dog lengthwise and insert a cheese stick.
- Divide dough into strips and wrap tightly around each hot dog.
- Bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil each pretzel dog for 20–30 seconds, then remove and place on baking sheet.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt if desired.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
