Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs

🥨🧀 Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs

“Warning: These little pretzel dogs caused a full-blown snack war in my house.
The second they came out of the oven, they were gone. 10/10 would make again!”

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 cheese sticks (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 10 cups water (for boiling)
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Slice each hot dog lengthwise and insert a cheese stick.
  6. Divide dough into strips and wrap tightly around each hot dog.
  7. Bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  8. Boil each pretzel dog for 20–30 seconds, then remove and place on baking sheet.
  9. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt if desired.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
⭐ Serving Tip: Serve warm with mustard, cheese sauce, or honey mustard for dipping.
