Sausage & Cheese Puff Pastry Ring

This ring of joy is the crown jewel of any holiday feast, disappearing before the first snow melts!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground breakfast or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (about ½ cup)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or blend)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, heat oil and sauté onions until translucent (3–4 minutes). Add garlic for 30 seconds.
  3. Add sausage and cook until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Season with oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let cool slightly, then mix in half the cheese and parsley.
  5. Roll out puff pastry. Mark a small circle in the center and cut strips outward from it.
  6. Arrange the sausage mixture in a ring around the inner circle. Top with remaining cheese.
  7. Fold strips over the filling alternately to form a woven ring.
  8. Brush with beaten egg and bake 25–30 minutes until golden and crisp. Cool 5 minutes before serving.
💡 Tips: Don’t overfill the ring — it bakes best when the layers can puff.
Add crushed red pepper for a spicy version.
Pairs beautifully with a side salad or marinara dipping sauce.
