Old-Fashioned Creamy Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2½ cups whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage until fully cooked.
  2. Do not drain the grease — it adds flavor.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir well. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly.
  5. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until thick and creamy.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  7. Serve hot.

Serving Ideas

  • Over biscuits
  • With mashed potatoes
  • As a dip for party appetizers
Tip: If the gravy gets too thick, add a splash of milk and stir until smooth.
