KFC Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp (9 g) salt
- 1 tbsp (12 g) sugar
- 4 tsp (16 g) baking powder
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) baking soda
- 3 tbsp (42 g) vegetable shortening
- 4 tsp (18 g) butter-flavor Crisco
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk
- Whole milk, for brushing
- Butter or margarine, for brushing after baking
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
- Whisk flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda in a large bowl.
- Cut in shortening and Crisco until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in buttermilk just until a soft, sticky dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a floured board and knead gently 10–12 times.
- Divide in half and pat each portion into an 8-inch round, 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut biscuits with a 2-inch cutter, reforming scraps as needed.
- Arrange biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet, edges touching lightly.
- Brush tops with milk and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden.
- Brush hot biscuits with melted butter and serve warm.
