Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Batter:

In a mixing bowl, combine the milk, baking soda, cornmeal, chopped onion, sugar, flour, salt, and pepper. Mix until the ingredients are well incorporated.

2. Heat the Oil:

Pour enough cooking oil into a deep-frying pan to cover the bottom by about 1/2 to 1 inch. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches approximately 175Ā°C (350Ā°F).

3. Cook the Dumplings:

Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, spreading them slightly to form small dumplings. Fry the dumplings until they are golden brown on one side, then carefully flip them to brown the other side.

4. Drain and Serve:

Remove the dumplings from the oil and place them on a rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

5. Add Toppings:

Serve the dumplings warm, topped with sour cream or your preferred sauce.

Tips:

  • For extra fluffiness, ensure your oil is at the correct temperature before frying.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain even cooking and prevent the dumplings from sticking together.
  • Experiment with different seasonings or herbs in the batter for added flavor.
