Creamy German Dumplings | Family Recipe

🥔 Creamy German Dumplings


“My German nana taught me this recipe, and it’s been a family favorite ever since.”

These tender dumplings are pan-seared until golden, then gently simmered in a rich,
creamy sauce. Pure comfort food, perfect for cold evenings or family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked potato dumplings (or bread dumplings)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup grated cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and lightly golden.
  3. Add dumplings and gently brown them on all sides.
  4. Pour in cream and milk, reduce heat to low.
  5. Stir in cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Finish with fresh herbs and serve warm.
Serving Tip:
Serve with a green salad or roasted vegetables. This dish also pairs beautifully
with grilled sausages or roasted chicken.
