Rich, smooth, buttery, and perfect for breakfast or as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water (or half water, half milk for extra creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Bring water (or water and milk mixture) to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
  2. Slowly whisk in the grits to prevent lumps.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally.
  4. Cook for 15–20 minutes (or according to package directions) until thick and creamy.
  5. Stir in butter and salt.
  6. Serve warm with an extra pat of butter on top if desired.
