📝 Ingredients

  • 60 g (¼ cup) butter, softened 🧈
  • 240 g (2 cups) cake flour
  • 55 g (⅓ cup) cocoa powder
  • 10 g (2 ¼ tsp) baking soda
  • 3 g (⅓ tsp) salt
  • 300 g (1 ½ cups) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs 🥚
  • 240 ml (1 cup) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice)
  • 120 ml (½ cup) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 240 ml (1 cup) hot water or hot coffee ☕

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  5. Combine & Add Hot Liquid: Gradually add dry mix, then slowly pour in hot water or coffee until smooth.
  6. Bake: Divide batter into pans and bake 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool & Serve: Let cakes cool, then frost with chocolate buttercream, ganache, or dust with powdered sugar.
