Apple Cinnamon Lasagna Rolls
Ingredients:
- 2 packages of cinnamon rolls
- 4 large apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious recommended)
- Ā½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Ā½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Ā½ cup caramel sauce (or salted caramel sauce, if preferred)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375Ā°F (190Ā°C) and prepare an 8″ x 8″ x 2″ (or similar) glass or ceramic baking dish by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray. I used a 7″ x 9″ x 2″ ceramic dish for this recipe.
- Prepare Apple Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss the mixture until the apples are evenly coated.
- Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Unroll the cinnamon rolls and cut them into Ā½-inch strips. Roll these strips out on a floured surface until they are soft and fluffy. The dough can be sticky, so generously sprinkle flour on both the surface and your hands to prevent sticking.
- Layer the Dish: Take a portion of the flattened cinnamon rolls and line the bottom and sides of the baking dish. Press down firmly to seal the dough into place.
- Add Apple Filling: Spread half of the apple filling over the cinnamon roll layer, and drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the top. Add another layer of flattened cinnamon roll strips on top.
- Second Layer: Spread the remaining apple mixture and drizzle more caramel sauce. Cover with the last layer of cinnamon rolls.
- Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the dish to cool for at least 30 minutes. Finally, drizzle with the icing that comes with the cinnamon rolls, slice, and serve.
