Amish Onion Fritters

These Amish Onion Fritters are a traditional comfort food.
Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of sweet onion flavor.
Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add egg and milk, stirring until smooth.
  4. Fold in chopped onions until well coated.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil.
  6. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm.
Serving Tip:
Serve with gravy, sour cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.
These are best enjoyed fresh and hot!
