Husband’s Delight: Savory Swiss Steak Recipe
This Swiss steak recipe has become a regular request from my husband, so I’ve affectionately named it “Husband’s Happiness.” It’s a comforting dish that’s perfect for family meals or special occasions.
Ingredients:
- 6 medium-sized beef blade steaks
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1/4 cup dry sherry
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons oil (divided)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons mild paprika
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Beef:
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the beef steaks with salt and pepper, then sear them on both sides until browned. Transfer the steaks to your slow cooker. -
Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the remaining oil and sauté the mushrooms and onions until they become soft and golden. Stir in the thyme and paprika, allowing the flavors to blend for about 1 minute. Transfer this mixture over the steaks in the slow cooker. -
Create the Sauce:
In a bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, dry sherry, and flour until smooth. Pour this sauce over the beef and mushroom mixture in the slow cooker. -
Slow Cook to Perfection:
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the beef is tender and infused with flavor. -
Finish and Serve:
Once the beef is cooked, remove the steaks and stir the cream and parsley into the sauce. Return the steaks to the slow cooker, ensuring they are coated with the creamy sauce. Allow the dish to cook on low for an additional 10 minutes.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve this flavorful Swiss steak with mashed potatoes, rice, or any of your favorite side dishes. It’s a hearty meal that is sure to be a hit!
Enjoy!
