Grandma’s Classic Custard Pie

🥧 Grandma’s Classic Custard Pie
“I took one bite… and I swear, it tasted like my grandma’s hugs in dessert form.”
This old-fashioned custard pie is silky, rich, lightly sweet, and finished with a sprinkle of warm nutmeg.
Simple ingredients. Timeless flavor.
📝 Ingredients
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups whole milk (room temperature)
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (plus extra for topping)
- Optional: whipped cream for serving
🔥 Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp edges.
2️⃣ Make the Custard
In a large bowl, whisk eggs until smooth.
Add sugar, salt, and vanilla.
Slowly whisk in milk until fully combined.
3️⃣ Fill the Crust
Pour custard mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg.
4️⃣ Bake
Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until center is just set but still slightly jiggly.
A knife inserted near the center should come out clean.
5️⃣ Cool
Let cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing.
💡 Tips for Perfect Custard Pie
- Do not overbake — custard continues to set while cooling.
- Room temperature milk helps prevent cracks.
- For extra smooth texture, strain mixture before pouring.
🍽️ Serve
Top with fresh whipped cream and a light dusting of nutmeg.
Serve chilled for the most classic flavor and texture.
Result: Creamy. Silky. Comforting. Just like grandma used to make. 🤍
