Comfort Food Meatballs with Gravy & Mashed Potatoes

Meatballs may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of comfort food —
but these? They feel like a cozy hug and a little forehead kiss.
Rich gravy, tender meatballs, and creamy mashed potatoes make this a meal that instantly lifts the mood.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

For the Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Make the Meatballs

  1. In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs and milk. Let soak for 1 minute.
  2. Add ground beef, egg, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley.
  3. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Shape into medium-sized meatballs.
  5. Brown meatballs in a skillet over medium heat until golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 10–12 minutes until cooked through.

Make the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender.
  2. Drain and mash with butter and warm milk.
  3. Season with salt to taste.

To Serve

Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto a plate and top generously with meatballs and gravy.
Sprinkle with parsley and serve warm.
