Open-Faced Sloppy Joes with Melted Cheese

Description: A quick, delicious open-faced sloppy joe recipe topped with melted cheese — perfect for parties or a fast family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2.2 lb) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 sandwich rolls or split French bread
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet and sauté the onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic, then add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and broth.
  4. Simmer on low heat 6–8 minutes until thickened. Season to taste.
  5. Toast the sandwich rolls lightly.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each roll.
  7. Top with shredded cheese.
  8. Broil or bake until the cheese melts and bubbles.

Notes
