Salisbury Steak Meatballs with Rich Mushroom Gravy

These Salisbury steak meatballs are juicy, flavorful, and simmered in a deep, rich mushroom gravy. Perfect served with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 small onion, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for browning)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 8 oz (225 g) sliced mushrooms
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced onion, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until soft and browned.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
  5. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir until thickened.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley before serving.

Serve warm with mashed potatoes or noodles for the ultimate comfort meal.
