Salisbury Steak Meatballs with Rich Mushroom Gravy
These Salisbury steak meatballs are juicy, flavorful, and simmered in a deep, rich mushroom gravy. Perfect served with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 small onion, finely minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for browning)
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 8 oz (225 g) sliced mushrooms
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced onion, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until soft and browned.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
- Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir until thickened.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley before serving.
Serve warm with mashed potatoes or noodles for the ultimate comfort meal.
