“Lord help me… the house smelled amazing while this baked! I could hardly wait until it cooled and I had a kitchen full of kiddos waiting to dig in! Saved a few slices for the neighbors and they were all asking for the recipe. Would be a stunner for company!” ❤️

🍫 Ingredients

  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix (or homemade chocolate cake batter)
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix or recipe directions. Prepare and bake cake layers as directed, then allow them to cool completely.
  2. In a saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened (about 10–12 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans. Let cool until spreadable.
  4. Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, add the second layer, and finish with more frosting on top and around edges if desired.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before slicing for perfect, gooey layers!
💡 Tip: For an extra indulgent version, drizzle with chocolate ganache before serving — it adds a glossy finish and even more flavor!
