Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

This comforting classic features juicy beef patties smothered in a rich, creamy mushroom gravy. Perfect with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for a cozy, satisfying dinner!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/3 cup heavy cream (optional for extra richness)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and shape into 4 patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sear the patties on both sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sautƩ mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw taste.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and thyme. Bring to a simmer until thickened.
- Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 10ā15 minutes until fully cooked.
- Stir in heavy cream if desired and adjust seasoning.
Serving suggestion: Serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles, and spoon plenty of that rich mushroom gravy over the top!
