Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Stacks

Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Stacks 🧀🥐
As a child, I frequently requested my mom to prepare this dish. It was undoubtedly my favorite! 🥰 These Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Stacks are golden, flaky, and loaded with melty cheese — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 8 slices ham (thinly sliced)
- 8 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese (or your favorite melty cheese)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- Optional: Dijon mustard for spreading
Directions
- Preheat oven: Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut into even squares or rectangles (about 3×3 inches).
- Assemble: On half of the pastry squares, add a slice of ham and cheese. (Optional: spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard.) Top each with another pastry square to form a sandwich.
- Seal edges: Press the edges gently with a fork to seal. Mix the egg and milk, then brush over the tops for a golden finish.
- Bake: Arrange on the baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool slightly: Let cool for a few minutes — the cheese will be gooey and irresistible! 😋
💡 Tips & Variations
- Cheese options: Try mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar for different flavor profiles.
- Extra flaky: Chill the assembled pastries for 10 minutes before baking.
- Mini version: Cut smaller squares for bite-sized party appetizers.
- Sweet twist: Replace ham and cheese with Nutella or jam for a dessert version. 🍫🍓
