Amish Poor Man’s Steak

Amish Poor Man’s Steak
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup crushed saltine crackers (about 24 crackers)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk (for the gravy)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp butter or oil (for browning)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, milk, crushed crackers, onion, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into thick oval patties (about 8–10 pieces).
- In a skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat. Brown patties on both sides, about 2–3 minutes per side. Do not cook through.
- Transfer browned patties to a baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, ½ cup milk, and Worcestershire sauce to make the gravy. Pour over the patties.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, until the patties are cooked through and tender.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles, spooning gravy over the top.
Tip: For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of garlic powder or paprika to the meat mixture before shaping the patties.
