Date and Walnut Loaf Recipe

🍞 Date and Walnut Loaf

Moist, nutty, and naturally sweetened — this classic Date and Walnut Loaf is a comforting bake that’s perfect with tea or coffee. Each slice is packed with rich flavor from dates and the satisfying crunch of walnuts.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) chopped dates
  • 1 cup (120g) chopped walnuts
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Combine chopped dates and hot water in a bowl, then stir in baking soda. Let it sit for 10 minutes to soften the dates.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
  3. Add oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and the soaked date mixture. Mix gently until well combined.
  4. Fold in chopped walnuts, ensuring they’re evenly distributed in the batter.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased and lined loaf pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C (340°F) for 50–60 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
💡 Tip: Add a touch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a cozy aroma. This loaf keeps beautifully for up to 3 days at room temperature.
