Apple Fritters Recipe

Ingredients for the Fritters:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tbsp. applesauce
  • 2 large Granny Smith or Honey Crisp apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Canola oil for frying

Ingredients for the Icing:

  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Frying Area: Place cooling racks on wax paper-lined baking sheets and set them aside.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of the ingredients.
  3. Prepare the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and applesauce until smooth.
  4. Combine: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. Fry the Fritters: Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan or pot to about 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Drain and Cool: Once fried, transfer the fritters to the prepared cooling racks to drain excess oil.
  7. Prepare the Icing: While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  8. Glaze the Fritters: Drizzle the icing over the warm fritters or dip them into the icing to coat evenly. Allow the icing to set.
  9. Serve: Enjoy these apple fritters warm, savoring the delicious blend of apples and cinnamon!

Enjoy!
