Apple Fritters Recipe
Ingredients for the Fritters:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp. applesauce
- 2 large Granny Smith or Honey Crisp apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- Canola oil for frying
Ingredients for the Icing:
- 2 cups icing sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Frying Area: Place cooling racks on wax paper-lined baking sheets and set them aside.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of the ingredients.
- Prepare the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and applesauce until smooth.
- Combine: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing. Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Fry the Fritters: Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan or pot to about 350Ā°F (175Ā°C). Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Drain and Cool: Once fried, transfer the fritters to the prepared cooling racks to drain excess oil.
- Prepare the Icing: While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
- Glaze the Fritters: Drizzle the icing over the warm fritters or dip them into the icing to coat evenly. Allow the icing to set.
- Serve: Enjoy these apple fritters warm, savoring the delicious blend of apples and cinnamon!
Enjoy!
