Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
For the Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350Ā°F (180Ā°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
- Slowly add the hot water to the mixture, stirring constantly until the batter is fully blended.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Frosting:
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter using an electric mixer until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, vanilla extract, and salt to the butter, mixing on low speed until smooth and fluffy.
- Once the cakes have cooled completely, frost them generously.
- For the best results, refrigerate the cake for a short time before serving.
