Homemade Picadillo Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
  • 1-2 lbs ground beef
  • 3 potatoes, cubed
  • 1 can of green beans or fresh (optional)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 Serrano chiles, chopped
  • 1 tsp kosher salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano (rubbed between palms)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 3 tsps paprika
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the cubed potatoes and cook until golden brown and tender. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the ground beef, garlic, onions, and spices. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked through.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes and Serrano chiles. Let the mixture simmer and thicken.
  4. Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet, stirring everything together, and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and serve hot.
